Knee Brace Charges Your Cellphone

A knee brace that generates enough electricity to power 10 cellphones was demonstrated by scientists recently. The brace harvests the energy of a person's knee braking after taking a step, similar to the way hybrid car brakes collect energy to charge their batteries. The device only weighs 3.5 pounds, and does not need the intense effort that other human-powered energy generators such as hand cranks require. And while the cellphone measurement given by the creators is pretty useless, they do have several practical applications in mind.
Scientists suggest that the brace could be used by campers and soldiers to power GPS locators and satellite phones in areas with limited access to electricity. It could also charge prosthetic knees, eliminating the need for periodic surgery to replace the batteries in the joint.
The current version of the knee brace is just a proof-of-concept; the team plans to make the device less bulky while still retaining its energy harvesting capabilities. We think this is a great idea with lots of potential (even if it was created in part by a University of Michigan professor). Hopefully we can get a working model before CES next year so we'll never need to worry about our laptop running out of juice. Thanks for Benny Goldman for the good article.

Japanese Magnetic Knee Wrap

The Japanese and Asian Society in general take magnetic therapy very seriously in their day to day lives. These Japanese Magnetic Knee Wraps have magnets sewn directly into the front and back of the wraps and provide a magnetic blanket targeted to that painful knee area with 12 magnets @900 gauss each. A non invasive, no pill/no side effects approach to helping the body heal itself .
AceMagnetics.com feel that that these wraps represent an extremely high quality product for those of you who do feel alternative forms of treating pain (i.e. the use of magnets) are worth trying and so we make what would be an otherwise unavailable product available to you right here in the USA.Choosing Your Proper Size: Measure the circumference of your knee joint starting at the top of your Knee cap. If your knee joint measures between 9 and 13 1/2 inches - order size Medium please. If your knee joint measures between 12 and 17 1/2 inches order the size Large.

Benefits of magnetic theraphy

Some of the benefits that magnetic therapy claims to provide include:

1.pain relief
2.reduction of swelling
3.improved tissue alkalinization
4.more restful sleep
5.increased tissue oxygenation
6.relief of stress
7.increased levels of cellular oxygen
8.improved blood circulation
9.anti-infective activity

There are two theories that are used to explain magnetic therapy. One theory maintains that magnets produce a slight electrical current. When magnets are applied to a painful area of the body, the nerves in that area are stimulated, thus releasing the body's natural painkillers. The other theory maintains that when magnets are applied to a painful area of the body, all the cells in that area react to increase blood circulation, ion exchange, and oxygen flow to the area. Magnetic fields attract and repel charged particles in the bloodstream, increasing blood flow and producing heat. Increased oxygen in the tissues and blood stream is thought to make a considerable difference in the speed of healing.

Magnetic Therapy – Can it Help You?

Magnetic therapy has been around for centuries and is gaining popularity and effectiveness in today’s world. Magnetic therapy is a safe, effective, alternative source of pain relief for muscle and joint discomfort. Magnets are non-invasive ways of helping the body heal itself with out adverse side effects. This is an excellent choice for everyone.

Magnetic therapy works by helping the chemicals within the body to move to the affected area. For a body part to heal the site must be restored to its natural state. Pain and inflammation is removed from the area and oxygen and nutrients are moved into the affected area.
Magnetic therapy is safe. Complications should not occur if magnets are used properly. However, if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump or other electro-medical implants you should not use magnets.

Magnetic jewelry can be worn daily so you get continuous therapy. Magnetic jewelry can provide pain relief in your joints. There are two ways that magnet jewelry can provide a stimulus to increase endorphins, a natural way to gain pain relief and help in circulation. This helps to flush out toxins which may be a cause of pain in the body. By using magnets as self-help health care alternative to pain relief of neck, wrist, shoulder, knee, back, elbow or ankle, one may feel relief within a few hours or a few minutes. A beneficial side effect from using magnets could be increased in energy to help carry you through your busy day(s).

Magnetic wraps, braces or supports can be used by athletes or the general population to help heal joints caused by injuries or osteoarthritis to one’s arms, legs, hands, and wrists. By increasing blood circulation to a specific joint(s) the healing time and pain relief is shortened. Magnets can help prevent muscle spasms that occur with pain associated with joint pain.
Arthritis sufferers are probably the largest portion of our population that uses magnetic therapy. Many people often wonder why they waited so long to start magnetic therapy after receiving relief in a short amount of time.

When Knee Braces Are Most Useful

If your knees have been injured in the past from an athletic event then your doctor might recommend you wear a knee brace. A knee brace can be useful when you tear ligaments surrounding the cartilage. It can provide the support your knee needs in order for the ligaments to repair. Without a brace then you might cause more damage to the ligaments than necessary.
Knee braces are often used for protection also. You may have never had a surgery to your knee or a serious injury. You can still wear a knee brace for protection to ensure nothing does happen to your knees. This is wise if you are playing intense sports where there is a lot of contact or you fall hard on your knees.

Rehabilitation is another reason a knee brace might come into play. If you have had surgery on your knee then the doctor will want to stabilize it. These types of knee braces are similar to a cast because they allow the knee to remain in the same position so it can heal. Bones need to be in the right position when they heal, especially around the knee. A good example of a brace like this would be a donjoy knee brace and there are braces for ankle injuries too.

A knee brace should never be used as a crutch. They are primarily used to provide support for the ligaments around the knee, the knee cap, and the joints. You might want a knee brace for protection if you are in contact sports or if you need to rehabilitate your knee due to a surgical procedure.
